EU citizens: How to vote in European elections 2019?

Megafon.jpeg

Do you want to elect your representative in the European Parliament? EU citizens living in Germany can chose a Member of Parliament in the European elections on May 26, 2019.

I am not German and can I still vote in Germany?

YES! If you are an EU citizen and have lived in Germany for at least 3 months, you can vote in these elections. As long as you have done your Anmeldung, you have the right to vote.

BUT – you still need to register before the elections. It’s not automatic that you are on the list of people entitled to vote just because you did your Anmeldung. You have to apply for it!

REGISTRATION CLOSES ON MAY 5

You will need to file an application in your city hall – for Bezirksamt Neukölln. You have to go there in person with your ID.

You can find the application here: Antrag auf Eintragung in ein Wählerverzeichnis: https://www.bundeswahlleiter.de/dam/jcr/d975b44c-d57d-439a-b290-7ff6b956ccb4/euwo_anlage-2a_ausfuellbar.pdf

You have already voted in the European Elections in Germany? You should have received a letter already – Wahlbrief. It tells you where your polling booth is. You will need to take it with you to vote. I

CAN I ALSO VOTE IN MY EMBASSY?

You can only vote once. So you either vote in Germany or in your embassy. In Germany you vote for candidates representing and in the embassy for for people running in your home country. But you can only vote once!

Do you want to help? Spread this news with all your friends – a lot of EU citizens do not know that they have the right to vote or that they need to register in person by May 5. Help us circulate this info!
